4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient yet pricey., December 27, 2012

Well. I'll have to do this feedback in segments.

This kit comes with the:
Yeti 1250 Generator
2 Boulder 30 Solar Panels to charge the Yeti, each come with a charge cord
1 AC adapter to charge the Yeti
1 Carrying case for the Solar Panels
1 Cart (requires assembly-attaches to the Yeti)

I live in the Mid-Atlantic where the sun is unpredictable, but wanted a green generator. I purchased two additional Boulder 30's to maximize charge potential. However, the most I've got out of the four panels in one partly cloudy day is 40 watts of charge, which is scary as the panels are supposed to be 30 watts a-piece. I'll have to wait until a non-cloudy day to see what I can max out at and let you know...

Other than the small issues I've tested so far, this thing is pretty cool and self-explanatory, convenient load plugs and the top easily disassembles to test and/or replace the internal battery. The Goal Zero website said the battery... Read more

4/8/16 - I plugged one 40w fan into it and it ran for 2 minutes then died. I am NOT impressed. Grrrr. Now I have to pack this 110lb dead weight back into it's boxes and ship it back. Double grrrrrr.

UPDATE 4/11/16: Called and talked to an amazon csr this morning about my brand new dead generator. The amazon rep conferenced me in with a goalzero CSR rep. Goalzero will be sending me a prepaid return label to send the failed product back to them and they, in turn, are going to ship a replacement. So far this is being handled really well by amazon and the manufacturer. More later.

UPDATE 4/17/16: Goalzero attempted to replace the failed unit (no shipping charges) then proceeded to ship the European 230 volt version to me instead of the 120 volt USA version!! I am reducing my review to ONE star instead of two because this experience has gone from bad to worse and I STILL do not have a working generator in my hands. Incredible. My patience is very rapidly running... Read more

I had hoped to use this to provide power to my water pump, so we could get through power outages of a couple of days, and retire my generator. But that was never going to happen. The model I ordered was a 240V that Amazon no longer carries, so I got this 120V model. And while one of these could run a fridge for a day if you manage things well, it couldn't run a water pump for more than a few hours, even with lots of solar panels. But since I have it, it does turn out to be very useful as a backup for shorter power outages (up to overnight) to keep computers, routers, phone chargers, and the fridge running. How much you'll love it depends on what you imagine it can do -- it'd be easy to buy the pitch and imagine with a few solar panels you can run half your house indefinitely, but this is nowhere near up to doing that. But what it actually can do, it does well.
